that's a good point, pocket. as i get older and watch the tapes again, i'm just amazed at the musicality of gadd. it's what he didn't play that was amazing. (i understand that vinnie and weckl played in the spirit of buddy and were fantastic themselves...)

i got a chance to watch the gadd tribute dvd and to see him play with james taylor was great. his touch is so wonderful. you just can't teach that stuff. even the way he coaxes the hats during the verse sections is so phaaat. how does he pull that huge round tone from them little sticks? for you lucky ones out there in the east coast - don't pass the opportunity to check out his clinics. i know i'd regret it.

btw- i was there at the wiltern that evening. i remember being amazed when i first saw chambers. during the intermission everyone was like -
who's that chambers guy? it was great seeing alot of accomplished drummers just hangin out in the theatre as well giving autographs and photo ops. i wish they'd put all that in. they also had the BR kit set up in the lobby for all to enjoy.

the only bummer of that night was to have my car broken into cuz i wanted to save 5 buck for parking. ahhhh college days.

thanks for the heads up, S.P.!

Hey thanks for this update, SP [BRMSC DVDs]

Keep us posted on the releae date...& tell 'em to make sure they put plenty out...it's prob going to sell out from just in here as it is!
Although Dave's open solo at the start of his second tune is classic Dave stuff. Very musical as always, tons of finness, and lots of the doubles on the ride, xhat, and hi-hat. I alwaus dug that stuff.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ditto, that.

no problem guys!

I've only got the highlights tape which shows one tune from each drummer, and i dont know about the other tunes but from my impressions on that highlights tape it seemed that the band was most pleased with Gregg's playing, plus he was sporting that super hip MULLET!

It's going to be amazing for me when i get this because i have never seen the whole thing but i have heard sooo many great things about it!

I'll let you guys know for sure as soon as i know of the release date

VC had the decent "mini"-mull, & Weck had the sporty-perm mull, but GB had the Super-Joe Dirt Award mullett! ;cp These are also commonly known amongst drummers as the "Shedder-Shredder-Mullette[s]"... /:cD

Just WAIT 'til you see the DW/SG/VC finale trades, w the Gaddfather starting off w one of his trademark 4/4 cowbell-groove Mozambique variations, SP...just make sure you're not wearing your best boxers or tighty-whiteys...

Question:
"When you first walk in the Weckl/Gadd/Colaiuta BRMSC2 auditorium right after the show, what's the first thing that you smell?"

Answer:
[Shrugs shoulders:] "Depends..."

This thread just reminds me that DRUMMERS need to get into production and filming. We need drummers to storyboard these shows from start to end. Give us what drummers want to see--the extra footage, etc. Give us camera angles from a drummer's point of view. Give us interviews! How cool would it be to have had interviews with each of the guys in a roundtable sort of way? The Internet has allowed for inside stuff only once held in drum mags regarding opinions. We know what we want and need to expect these results. Now that I think about this, I need to do this interview thing at NAMM next year. My preNAMM thread will be asking you guys what types of questions to ask.

The DVD may contain some extras yet whereas Vinnie might agree to some yackyack, don't you think it rather doubtful he's gonna sign off on allowing even more footage of him drumming to be included?

I don't think he really could balk at it, it's an older project that he gave consent to and If Warner releases it on DVD with extra footage that may or may not exist is their perogative.

True that, pocket.

Just one of the many things:

I've always thought that a drum vid should always have the option of a small corner window screen of the feet themselves within the full screen of the drummer, which is often usually only full upper torso but hindering from just above the ankles & down! Esp the HH foot.

There's a section in Virg's Power Drumming vid that shows the feet AWA the up body during his DB doubles-&-hands shredfest. That type of thing.

How about examining the differing angles, such as from over te top, front, or back, AWA the sides we always get ...of course, this involves more cams AWA linkage...so, either all, or a few of?...

Hey Guys,

Here's an update

The first time i spoke to Ray after Warner were sold to Alfred he told me all productions were on hold

then on around may 18th i spoke to him again and he said that The 98 L.A Memorial (vinnie gadd chambers weckl bellson and bissonette) was just sent to the production house and would be ready in about 4 weeks (which have already gone by) and that this dvd would be followed by the New york memorial concert with Steve Smith, Marvin Smitty etc

I have tried to find information about the release date on the net but i have found nothing, i also tried emailing Ray again but it seems that all their emails have been changed/cancelled or maybe they were dismissed from the company after alfred bought them but anyways, i can't get through to them!

I've tried emailing Alfred but have received no reply yet and it has been about 2 weeks

I'll keep trying and i'll post anything as soon as i know.

As far as extra footage Ray said he was having trouble getting extra buddy footage from Cathy Rich but that in the last minute he managed to get some from their private collection (cathy's one that is)

So im not sure about any rehearsal footage but i sure hope there is some!

I can't wait for this to come out!
